Simple Angelfood Trifle with Fresh Berries

With the help of store-bought angelfood cake, this simple trifle comes together quickly and easily.  I love it for holidays, last-minute dinner parties, and weeknight treats.  No special equipment needed - I've even made this at work before!  You can mix it all together, or layer it like a traditional trifle.  Either way, it's an instant crowd-pleaser, and with all the beautiful berry blues and reds, it makes a perfect 4th of July dessert.  Here's how Mama makes it:
Simple Angelfood Trifle with Fresh Berries

Ingredients:
- 1 angelfood cake
- 1 big box instant vanilla pudding mix
- 3 c. milk
- 8 oz. whipped cream
- 1 pint strawberries, halved and stems removed
- 1 c. blueberries, rinsed
- 1 c. blackberries, rinsed

Directions:

1.  Cut angelfood cake into cubes and set aside.  Rinse berries and halve strawberries.

2.  Mix pudding mix according to package directions until thickened. Gently fold in whipped topping.

3.  Assemble the trifle:  Layer 1/3 of the cubed angelfood cake, 1/3 of the pudding mixture, and 1/3 of the berries. Be sure to concentrate some of the berries around the edges of using a trifle bowl so they show up from the outside.  Repeat layers twice and refrigerate until ready to serve.

4.  Alternately, place the cubed angelfood in a large bowl, pour pudding mixture over the cake and gently stir to coat.  Gently fold in the berries and serve. This works well if you don't have a trifle bowl, and tastes just as delicious!

Happy Independece Day, everyone!!
