Convos with Peanut: The National Anthem

We were sitting at the dinner table, waiting for Emma to be done eating and Michael was telling Annalyn about our national anthem.  He started singing it line by line and asking her to repeat it.  Somewhere after "the dawn's early light", Peanut chimed in with a loud, drawn out, very emphatic, "AND THE DRAAAA-GON!!!"

Anyone who's seen How I Met Your Mother would understand why we lost it, despite our best efforts.  (No, my kids don't watch sitcoms, they just pick up catch phrases from us.) Then we explained that the dragon doesn't belong in this song, but I think it was a little lost on our three year old who was cracking herself up.  Even Emma was laughing (she didn't know or care why).  Man, our kids are weird.  Awesome, but weird.  I hope all of your kids are weird, too, so they can be friends.  Otherwise, it will just be my two little weirdos against the world. And the world won't stand a chance...

Convos with Peanut: Ghost Cookies

Here's a funny text I received at work the other day.  Apparently Peanut had pretty strong feelings about sharing her ghost cookies (Pillsbury break and bake cookies she picked out at Target) with Daddy.  (In the convo, "me" is Michael.)

Me: are those ghost cookies good?

Anna: NO those are not good for you!

(With her hand up) but they are good for mmmeee

Convos with Peanut: These are my problems...

"Now, what was I saying?... Oh, yea.  These are my problems..."

Then she plopped down on the pillow she had covered with her special white blanket and proceeded to discuss her "problems" with me.  Honestly, I don't know if she ever even said exactly what they were, she just wanted to talk about them. I mean really, what sort of problems can a 2.5 year old have? But then again, what sort of 2.5 year old says things like "Now, what was I saying?... Oh, yea.  These are my problems..."

One of a kind.

Convos with Peanut: Snack time, Peanut style

Peanut:  I want pistachios... with cheese on 'em and olives.  Purple olives and green olives and blue olives and pink olives.

Daddy:  you like all those kinds, huh?

Peanut:  yep.

Little foodie in the making!

Convos with Peanut: On Frozen, part 2

Annalyn: "She froze the ground, and then Elsa runned away!"

Mama:  Why did Elsa run away?

Annalyn:  "Because she didn't like her sister."

After a pause to keep from laughing,
Mama:  Well, I think it was because she froze everything and didn't want to hurt anyone.

After a pause to think, takes off running and sings, "let it gooooo! Let it goooo!  It never bothered me anyway!!!"

Once again, I don't think she quite gets this movie...

I just love this photo, and I use it all the time... But I think it's an appropriate addition to this post.

Convos with Peanut: A Starbucks Picnic

We were about 15 miles from home when Emelina decided she needed fed a second time on our normally two and a half hour car ride.  So we stopped at a Starbucks and I fed her in the car while Daddy and Peanut had a little date.   When they came back to the car, Annalyn told me all about it:

Daddy:  Tell Mommy what we did.
Peanut:  We had a picnic.
Mama:  You did? What did you have?
Peanut:  a vanilla frap-bean-mocha!  (Vanilla bean frappuccino)
Mama:  yummy!
Peanut:  Then I climbed like a monkey!  And I tried to poop.
Mama:  Did you get it out?
Peanut:  No... I didn't.
Mama:  Well, ok. Let's go home.

Convos with Peanut: On Frozen

A:  I'm watching Frozen!
Mama:  You are? Do you like Frozen?
A:  Yea, there's wolves in it!
Mama:  Are the wolves your favorite part of Frozen?
A:  Yep!  And the snow giant!
Mama:  Are you the weirdest little girl ever? ...Or the coolest?
A:  The coolest little girl.

Agreed, Peanut.

Happy first day of Summer!

Convos with Peanut: What do you see?

On our way home from Huntington after Christmas... along I-69 near Fishers exits...

Mama - Annalyn, look out the window at all the pretty lights!  What do you see?

Annalyn - A pig!

Mama - A pig?  What kind of pig? (as there's no pig in my line of sight)

Annalyn - A BIG PIG!!

Mama - What's a pig say?

Annalyn - (pausing for second to think, then...)  HAKUNA MATATA!!!

Oh, Peanut!  Mama and Daddy were rolling.  I was laughing so hard I was crying.

Lion King (or "Mean lion and the 'ninas" as you call it - seriously, what little kid roots for the bad guys??) has definitely become your first favorite Disney movie.  You often run around the kitchen island yelling "I'm running from the 'ninas!" but hearing you say hakuna matata just made my day.  Since then, you've realized the conundrum of having two kinds of pigs so you specify warthogs by calling them "hakuna matata pigs" and farm pigs are just pigs.  But hyenas are definitely your favorite part.  It really blew your mind when you discovered there was a hyena in your "Goodnight Gorilla" book.  Silly little Peanut.  That little personality gets bigger every day!

running from the 'ninas!!

Convos with Peanut: Tummy Baby

Mama - Annalyn, where's Mama's tummy baby? <she points to my belly>  Do you like tummy baby?

Peanut - hug, kiss...  aww, so cute!  <whilst patting/hugging/kissing my belly>

Mama - Anna, do you think tummy baby is a baby girl or a baby boy?  (granted this answer changes about daily)

Peanut - Baby booooy <smiling>

Mama - What should we name baby boy?

Peanut - Giiiirl!!!  <she says with lots of excitement>

Mama (looking at Daddy laughing) - Well, Johnny Cash might approve of a boy named girl, but we might want to think of some other options...

This was a couple weeks ago, she now insists that tummy baby's name is "aboo" or just "boo." Again, I have no clue where she came up with it :)

Peanut Post: Go Away!

Somewhere I have a little book to write down all the funny things my kids say so I can share it with them later and look back and laugh at all the silly things they said/did.  I vividly remember receiving that book as a shower gift and thinking, "wow, it will be forever before I need one of these!"  WRONG.  Yesterday I realized my baby has hit yet another "milestone" if you will - the my-kid-says-hilarious-things stage. *sigh*

It's true, it's time to dig that little book out of Annalyn's bookcase because suddenly she is cracking jokes, and using inflections, and chock full of personality.  Yesterday, I was sitting next to her on the couch and she realized that there was a throw behind me. The little conversation that ensued was funny/shocking/scary all at once.
