Peanut: I want pistachios... with cheese on 'em and olives. Purple olives and green olives and blue olives and pink olives.

Daddy: you like all those kinds, huh?

Becoming Mama

Years ago when I started "Ashley's Kitchen", I was just finishing pharmacy school. My husband, Michael, and I were purchasing and renovating our first home, and FINALLY I was getting my own kitchen. Looking back, I am amazed what I was able to do in my tiny apartment kitchen. After many requests by family/friends, I decided to start a little cooking blog with step by step instructions/pictures that were fun and easy to follow. It combined two of my favorite things - cooking and taking pictures.

Then, 5 months after the birth of our little Annalyn, I was ready to return to the world of blogging, not only as a way to share my recipes, but as a way to discover the person I am becoming. What was once Ashley's kitchen is becoming Mama's kitchen. The place where I cook family meals and find new ways to make them healthier. Where I give Annalyn baths in the sink and experiment with making baby food while she watches from her high chair. Where Daddy dances around with her when she's upset. My kitchen is being taken over by baby bottles/utensils/gadgets and I couldn't be happier. I am officially becoming Mama.

Now, after the birth of our second little lady, I'm finding myself once again adjusting to this crazy/amazing/overwhelming time in our lives. I'm officially a mother of two, and trying every day to figure out how to balance life, love, work, and family in this ever-changing life of ours. The kitchen is still the heart of our family and our home. It's my command center, my oasis, my mess, my escape. It's Mama's.
